SACRAMENTO – Assemblyman Cameron Smyth, R-Santa Clarita, announced today that the California State Assembly will recognize Linda White, President and CEO of the Simi Valley Boys and Girls Club, “Woman of the Year” for the 38th Assembly District.
“I am very proud to present Linda as the 2009 woman of the year for the 38th Assembly District,” said Smyth. “I have had the pleasure of witnessing all the great things Linda and Boys and Girls Club has done. The work she puts in benefits the entire community.”
Linda started with the Boys and Girls Club in 1994 and has a rich and deep history of community involvement in Simi Valley and Ventura County.
During her first year as CEO, Ms. White spearheaded a capital campaign to construct a new state-of-the-art, dedicated youth facility for young members, and successfully raised over $1,000,000 toward that goal. In 1996, Club members proudly moved into the new 25,000 square foot facility where 75 staff members were employed.
As CEO, Linda has been able to take the Club’s membership from 100 members to over 3,500 and continually pioneers new ways to serve an even greater number of children and families in the Simi Valley community. She has even increased the operating budget from $300,000 to $1.7 million.
“I want to thank Assemblyman Smyth for this recognition and award, I am truly touched. However, this award is really for all the hard working staff, volunteers, board members and donors who have made the club a great place to work and visit,” said White.
Linda will be recognized on March 8 with a ceremony in Sacramento to celebrate Women’s History Month.
